Castle Link Explained: Versions, Updates and More!
Whether you're dialing in your throttle response, upgrading firmware for better performance, or analyzing data from your latest bash or crawl, Castle Link software gives you the control you need. With two versions of Castle Link Adapters, two Quick Connects, Field Programming Cards and a mobile app available now, we know you might be wondering: What version adapter and software do I need, and why are there two? Let's break it all down.
Why Castle Link Exists
Castle Link is the software interface that lets you program, tune, and update your Castle ESCs and accessories.
With it, you can:
Adjust throttle, brake, and timing curves
Enable or disable features like SmartSense™ or
Download new software updates as they become available, revision history on updates can be found on this page.
Demo Mode lets you preview all available settings without connecting a device.
Download and analyze data logs (on supported ESCs)
To use Castle Link, you need both the software and a physical connection to your ESC.
Castle Link V3 vs V4: What’s the Difference?
We now offer two versions of Castle Link software: Castle Link V3 and Castle Link V4. The core reason for this split is hardware compatibility. If you own a Cobra ESC, you'll need to use Castle Link V4. Otherwise, stick with Castle Link V3. Both versions can coexist on your computer, so long as they are not both open at the same time.
Castle Link V3 and V4 are designed to be used with the PC version of Castle Link software.
Castle Link V3
Castle Link V3 is for most existing ESCs like the Mamba X, Sidewinder 4, and Copperhead 10.
Castle Link V4
Castle Link V4 is exclusively for our new Cobra Series ESCs, including Cobra 8, 10, and 5.
Ways to Connect Your ESC to Castle Link Software
We offer several options for connecting your ESC to a computer, each with a purpose, as well as a mobile option:
Castle Link USB Programming Kits are designed for use with the PC versions of Castle Link software:
System Requirements for Castle Link V3 and V4
Quick Connect Adapters are designed for use with the PC versions of Castle Link:
Quick Connect: Lets you leave the Castle Link cable installed without unplugging your receiver.
If you have a Castle ESC with dual BEC wires (Mamba XLX2, Monster X8S or Talon HV 120) or require more than 6 amps from the BEC you must use the Quick Connect Duo versus the Quick Connect.
Quick Connect Duo: Dual-channel version for ESC + auxiliary wire setups.
Quick Connect Duo supports all Castle Link capable ESCs but is designed specifically for use with Castle ESCs featuring AUX wire technology. See below for additional information about AUX wire functionality.
Auxiliary Functionality
Field Link Programmers:
Field Link for Driving and Flying: Plug-in devices for field updates and basic tuning without a PC.
B-LINK Bluetooth Adapter:
Castle B-LINK: Wirelessly connect via our Castle Link app (iOS/Android). Compatible with most Castle ESCs with the exception of the COBRA series ESCs. Mobile programming is in the works for the COBRA SERIES and will be an option for tuning, updating firmware and viewing data logs on your iOS and Android devices soon.

WHICH CASTLE LINK SOFTWARE DO I DOWNLOAD??
At the time of this publication there are two PC versions of Castle Link software, and as you’ve probably guessed, Castle Link Classic is for Castle Link V3 adapter (or prior) and Castle Link 2 is for Castle Link V4 adapter, and is our new modern interface with streamlined navigation and smaller installation footprint. Both versions are available, at no additional cost, on our downloads page right here: https://home.castlecreations.com/download-castle-link

Viewing and Downloading Data Logs
If your ESC supports data logging (like the Mamba X or Cobra 8), you can use Castle Link Classic, Castle Link 2 or Castle Link Mobile software to enable the feature as well as download run data to view details like motor RPM, ESC temperature, voltage, current draw, and more.
Data logs help diagnose overheating, gearing issues, or poor performance. For additional information about Data Logging you can click here to take a look at a video from a previous blog post.
